Tomas missing after fall
Tomas Olsson is missing on the North Face of Everest. Hel fell at approximately 8500 meter when a rope that they used for a rappel broke loose. Tormod Granheim was with him and climbed after him, but was not able to find him.
Tormod and Fredrik Schenholm are now heading towards the foot of the North Face to look for Tomas.
I am very sorry to have to report this sad news, and I am extremely sad that the information I received yesterday turned out to be incorrect. Let's hope for the best. I am now going to make phone calls to Everest Army basecamp, that is located near the foot of the North Face, to see if they can be of any help.

I was so relieved to read the earlier dispatch and utterly devastated to read this last one. I can not believe that Tomas was reported well and in C1 , when instead he had fallen at 8500 on the descend
Absolutely devastated and saddened

I agree with you Cas. I am devastated too. I spend the whole night figuring out what was going on, and I finally got to the second hand info, which seemed reliable. But it turned out to be wrong. Unbelievable.

This is terrible news to hear that Tomas fell at 8500m on his descent. I am truly hoping that he may be alive and that Tormod and Fredrik can get to him in time. Hopefully there will be a rescue party sent out if one hasn't been issued already.
Sincerely, MC

Tormod and Fredrik are setting up a rescue operation right now. If anyone knows how to get in touch with the British Army Basecamp right now, it would be very helpful. We have one sat phone number, but that one seems switched off right now.
If you can help, contact me at joost@schreve.com
thanks

Really tough and sad news. I was so happy to hear that all was OK with Tomas yesterday but a bit worried that there was no news about Tormod. Today this is completely turned around. All the best luck Fredrik and Tormod with your rescue operation.

I just thought I'd let you all know that Norwegian newpapers report that the Swedish government is cooperating with Chinese officials to mount a rescue operation.
We are all crossing our fingers and hoping for the best

Thanks for the update J. It is nice to know that all is being done in regards to a rescue operation.
I will stay positive because anyone who has such drive, ambition and courage as Tomas obviously has; must have a strong will to live. I pray he survived the fall.

There is a rescue fond for Tomas, on a norwegian web-page.. Its possible there will not be enough money to provide chopper and rescue action from the chinese, therefore Fri Flyt have startet a rescue fond and have already got several big donations. Its in norwegian, but if needed I can translate.
